Many people considered the Alvis one of the best that
Britain could offer. I owned a speed 20 Vanden Plas which I loved as a
road car and restored a racing supercharged front wheel drive model, which
was quite interesting to drive to say the least! My father had ordered a
T21 new from Kennings. I still remember being in the showroom with him and
listening to the salesman telling us what a good driver the delivery man
was!
When it arrived, I must say I was disappointed as the body
shape seemed a bit wrong and frankly the car could have gone a lot faster
(and Dad drove quick!) Worse was to follow...the car began to rattle...
Kennings seemed in the end to give up the unequal struggle. After two
years, rust had appeared on the door panels and the car was thankfully
sold and replaced with a Jaguar which rusted just as fast but drove like a
dream and looked perfect! |
